Symbiosis: two different organisms living in close proximity , usually to the advantage of one or both
Mutualism: both animals benefit from each other Ex: Leaf Cutter Ant and Fungus The leaf cutter ant protects the fungi and also feeds it small pieces of leaves. The ants keep their larvae in the fungi which protects it from predators.
Commensalism: one animal is benefited and one is neither harmed or benefited Ex: Bromeliads and trees Bromeliads grows on branches of trees to get sunlight. The plant does not effect anything that the tree does.
Parasitism: one animal is benefited and one is harmed Ex: The Strangler Fig starts on the branch of a tree and grows both up and down, while also wrapping around the tree. The strangler fig kills the tree by stealing nutrients and root space after enveloping it.
