In the tropical rainforest carbon is absorbed by plants and goes through the process of photosynthesis. Since there is so many different plants in the rainforest, it helps with the process. The plants release oxygen which animals and other organisms use to live. These animals then release carbon dioxide back into the air for the plants to restart this process.
In the rainforest carbon is also used up by the fossil fuels burned. In the rainforest there are fossil fuels under the ground. Once someone bring it to the surface the chance are it will be burned and send the carbon up into the atmosphere.
Another cycle of carbon in the rainforest are people burning organic matter. A problem is in the rainforest is "slash and burn" which is cutting down trees and burning what is left. Once it is burned the carbon is released back into the atmosphere.

In an ecosystem matter flows through it in a cycle and energy just flows from one organism to another with no order.
